New poker book, Gus Hansen's "Every Hand Revealed."
Here is an excellent book review of Gus Hansen's new book, "Every Hand Revealed."

I always liked watching Gus play, even if he has a reputation of being a cash game donkey in some circles. In this book, he chronicles over 300 hands he played on his way to winning the 2007 Aussie Millions Tournament.

The book sounds like a winner, I would pick it up if I were not so far behind in my poker reading already. I have a feeling I could get more out of this than Harrington on Holdem (blasphemy!), but I really play tournaments more like Gus than "Action Dan," so I would like to see how he handles seeing all those flops. I also like Gus' use of the term "air ball," I hear "air" a lot but not airball, I like it! You can read a nice excerpt from Gus' book at full tilt poker.com.

POKER AFTER DARK - Mini review.

I would like to do a full review of this show, but it's been on air so long that most people have probably seen it many times, and I have only seen a few episodes, so I can't say it would be fair on my part.

Six contestants (usually well known pros) play a no limit tournament over a four hour show, one hour for four nights. There is lots of table talk, and it's got the casual feel of another PROpoker productions show, "HIGH STAKES POKER."

Overall, it's dumb, b/c the prize is $120k, and these guys typically win that in one hand. Also, the format is extremely unoriginal, unlike HSP. I have ideas to totally revamp this show, but I don't have a relationship with Mori yet, so maybe some day we can talk.

re PAD:

Wow, you're review is the exact opposite of mine. In fact, it's the only poker show of any real merrit. The key is that they show every hand, instead of just the key confrontations. The table talk is a bit lame but they've got to have something going on to keep it from being a total yawn fest for those who don't like poker.

Well, I did just start tivoing this, so I guess the mini-review may have been unfair. Showing every hand is a nice feature, but I think this has been done, maybe on the Poker superstars series? Also, the time allowed is nice, giving some deep stack play some airtime.

I may come around and become a fan of the show, but I'm just so down on no limit tournaments right now.

The table talk is a nice feature, but the announcing is by ali nejad, (national heads up poker, wsop live pay per view,) and i'm not a big fan.

I agree with prock. I like the format of the show except for Ali talking over the players when an interesting story is taking place. I think Mori should maybe hold cue cards up for the players saying "tell a story" or "make fun of Hellmuth" because sometimes the players get pretty serious and the chit-chat slows down.

I love that you get to see every hand and the drink girls could show a bit more cleavage. That would be good. Chicks+PADark = Ratings?

NBC should splash the pot a bit more. Maybe matching the 120k? That would be a nice add.

Re: Gus

I was waiting for this book for a while. I've always thought Gus put in more thought to a hand than the "normal" players. My thought process is along the same lines as Gus when I'm involved in a hand. Maybe that's why I outplay myself more times than not??? This book might be good for someone like myself. I may purchase today. (then quit my job)

Great post BTW!
